Unemployed

I lost my job in October due to layoffs, so in the intervening time I have made little headway in being productive. Instead I have: watched too much HGTV, Food Network and DIY network, started to learn how to cook, made some unspeakably bad baking attempts, spoiled my dog rotten, indulged my obsession with Livejournal a little too much, and not cleaned my house nearly enough. This probably sums up my life pretty well in general.

I live in the Atlanta area with my boyfriend of three years and my black Lab, Paris. I'm applying for spring 2010 semester for an MLIS (Master in Library and Information Science), and very nervous about it since I want it so much!

Being an aspiring librarian, I love to read. My house is littered with books – on the mantel, bookcases, desks, side tables – you name it, it’s probably got books on it. My current phase right now is urban paranormal fantasy (big name, huh?) which would be books like Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series, Karen Chance’s Cassie Palmer, and C.E. Murphy’s Walker Papers series. I go through phases with what genres I read; awhile ago it was straight up romance novels, which I still have a passion (har har) for.

I have extremely eclectic musical taste – I’ll listen to most anything once. I like pop music (the shame!), indie (although what an awful descriptor – what does that even mean?), country, jazz, oldies, really oldies (like 40’s music), and []. I have a large music collection and almost always have it on shuffle – I like to keep music on for most of the day, whether I’m at work, in the car, or cleaning the house. Especially cleaning the house – need something to get me through that! Me and the iPod are best buds.

I'm an avid proponent of animal rescue and adoption, and I adopted my dog over a year ago from Atlanta Dog Squad. Not only do I feel emotionally rewarded for adopting her when she needed it so badly, but she's an amazing dog - not the least of which is that since she was fostered before being adopted out, she was housebroken before I adopted her! :)

So there you go. That's me in a nutshell.
